Last Year's Winner
The winner of last year’s Melbourne Cup (2006) was Delta Blues, ridden by Yasunari Iwata. Delta Blues is owned, trained and ridden by a Japanese team, confirming that the Melbourne Cup is truly an international race on the global racing calendar. Other internationally trained horses to have won the race in recent years include Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, both of whom were trained by the Irish master Dermot Weld.

Tickets for the 2007 Melbourne Cup Carnival are available through Ticketmaster and are currently on sale. The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) recently announced that this year’s event will be an ALL TICKETED event, the first time in the Carnival’s history. The club is encouraging the public to book early to avoid disappointment.
