This year’s event is once again set to bring Australia to a standstill. Stables from around the globe will send their best in the hope of victory and a share of the AUD$5.1 million prize money. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend, with a television audience in excess of 700 million from 120 countries.

Last Year's Winner

The winner of last year’s Melbourne Cup (2006) was Delta Blues, ridden by Yasunari Iwata. Delta Blues is owned, trained and ridden by a Japanese team, confirming that the Melbourne Cup is truly an international race on the global racing calendar. Other internationally trained horses to have won the race in recent years include Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, both of whom were trained by the Irish master Dermot Weld.

Melbourne Cup Carnival tickets

Tickets for the 2007 Melbourne Cup Carnival are available through Ticketmaster and are currently on sale. The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) recently announced that this year’s event will be an ALL TICKETED event, the first time in the Carnival’s history. The club is encouraging the public to book early to avoid disappointment.
