DERBY A TWO-HORSE RACE

IASbet.com’s Gerard Twomey gives his comments on the main contenders for the AJC Derby.

“Zabrasive ($3.00) is set for the race and is the clear pick. He has been well backed and we’re keeping him very safe. He’s got the Zabeel breeding on his side, while Rock Classic ($4.00 out to $4.40) is an easing second favourite but does have the Bart factor,” said Twomey.

“Keep The Peace ($12.00 into $9.00) is the unknown quantity, is lightly weighted and has a very impressive record from across the ditch.

“I’m happy to lay Shoot Out ($6.50). He failed to reproduce his barnstorming finish in the Randwick Guineas at Rosehill last time in and think he is a risk at the 2400m.”

IASbet.com’s Golden Slipper Preview

Thursday, 01 April 2010

Following today’s barrier draw, IASbet.com’s Gerard Twomey says Crystal Lily is the horse to beat in the 2010 Golden Slipper.

“Crystal Lily ($6.00 into $5.00) is my pick for the Slipper,” said IASbet.com’s Gerard Twomey. “She’s drawn perfectly and should be able to sit in behind the speed. She’s a strong filly that will have plenty in hand at the finish and is the one to beat.”

Twomey said Military Rose ($3.60) is a deserved favourite but may have a chink in his armour.

“He deserves to be favourite given what he has achieved, but second up after his Magic Millions campaign is a hard task and I think he is vulnerable,” said Twomey”

“Brightexpectations ($7.50 into $6.00) also drew well and should get the run of the race.”

Shaheeq and More Strawberries (both $15.00 out to $19.00) didn’t fare as well in the draw and their odds drifted accordingly.

IASbet.com’s Rosehill Guineas Preview

Thursday, 25 March 2010

The racing focus remains in Rosehill this week for the Rosehill Guineas and there is plenty of great value to be found on the nine race card according to IASbet.com’s John Hartnett. “The Rosehill Guineas is the highlight and we get to see Bart’s Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic ($3.40) take on Queensland star and Randwick Guineas winner Shoot Out ($3.40)”.

Hartnett likes the favoured pair but also suggests keeping an eye on the Peter Moody trained Hanks ($13.00) “Hanks has been looking for this step up in distance all preparation, I believe he will be charging home late and is definitely one to keep an eye on” The other major highlight of the Rosehill meeting is the two Golden Slipper lead ups – the Pago Pago Stakes and the Magic Night Stakes.

According to Hartnett “Hinchinbrook ($2.10) looks a very promising colt and deserves his short quote in the Pago Pago, while Georgette Silk ($5.50) can bounce back from a slightly below par run last start in the fillies race” All prices correct at time of writing.

IASbet.com take on Denman

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Form analysts at IASbet.com believe that the Peter Snowden trained superstar Denman is vulnerable in Saturday’s Group One Australian Guineas and are prepared to take him on. While other bookmakers and the TAB have him between $1.55 and $1.65, IASbet.com is willing and able to lay him at $1.80. “It’s not a foregone conclusion, there is rain forecast and the race may well be set up for horses to run over him.

I expect Denman to lead from his outside barrier and it may not be an advantage to be on the rail” said IASBet’s John Dow. The son of Lonhro has won nine of his last ten with his only defeat being at the same distance in the Caulfield Guineas. “I think history is about to repeat itself.” said Dow.

Don’t get blown away by Typhoon

Friday, 26 February 2010

IASbet.com’s John Hartnett gives punters his thoughts on Saturday’s Futurity Stakes at Caulfield and the Hobartville Stakes from Rosehill. “Typhoon Tracy ($1.60) has looked unbeatable this time in but she is yet to win at 1600m in open company.

Dao Dao ($4.60) was impressive first up in Sydney and ran 3rd in the Group One Champions Mile in Hong Kong last year. Snipers Bullet ($6) won two Group One’s in Perth and ran very well first up at Moonee Valley and I fancy one of those two to knock off Typhoon Tracy” “The Hobartville Stakes is an intriguing race. Manhattan Rain is the gun horse but blew the start in the Royal Sovereign, that along with the wet track put paid to his hopes but expect him to bounce back.

Kidnapped is the danger and won three races in a row to end his spring campaign but he hasn’t come up against a horse as good as Manhattan Rain”

Hong Kong Special and Preview

Friday, 11 December 2009

IASbet.com’s John Hartnett thinks the Hong Kong Sprint will come down to a battle between the local champion Silent Kingdom and the trio of Australian raiders in All Silent, Apache Cat and Scenic Blast.

“It looks like the winner will either come from the Australians or Silent Kingdom,” said IASbet.com’s John Hartnett. “Apache Cat looks like very good value at $9.50. As we’ve seen at Moonee Valley, he thrives on the StrathAyr surface with the sting out of the ground and he’ll be hard to beat fresh.”
