Hong Kong Special and Preview

Friday, 11 December 2009

IASbet.com's John Hartnett thinks the Hong Kong Sprint will come down to a battle between the local champion Silent Kingdom and the trio of Australian raiders in All Silent, Apache Cat and Scenic Blast.

"It looks like the winner will either come from the Australians or Silent Kingdom," said IASbet.com's John Hartnett. "Apache Cat looks like very good value at $9.50. As we've seen at Moonee Valley, he thrives on the StrathAyr surface with the sting out of the ground and he'll be hard to beat fresh."

Classy Ortensia Great Value

Friday, 27 November 2009

The Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot looks an open affair with plenty of chances. IASbet.com's John Hartnett warns punters that Lucky Secret obviously has a great record but there is some concern about the firmness of the track. Ortensia represents great value, and back to her preferred sprinting trip, she can really show her class.

Ortensia ($5.00) has been solid in betting all week, while the biggest move has been for Black In Time. This locally trained mare has come in from $21.00 to $15.00. It will be really interesting to see how the three year olds Kid Choisir and the unbeaten Waratah's Secret measure up at this level."

Can Kav's run continue?

Friday, 13 November 2009

Mark Kavanagh's superb end to the Spring Carnival might continue in the Sandown Classic IASbet.com's John Hartnett. "I think Raffaello ($9.00) is good value in this race. He's stepping up in class and distance, but he can't be discounted following his last start win and looks as though he wants the extra 400m. I'm happy to lay Master O'Rielly ($5.00). His fourth in the Melbourne Cup was another great effort, however I don't think he'll be sharp enough while coming back 800m in distance. Scenic Shot ($3.50) looks very hard to beat. He has proven he can carry the weight (59kgs), won the Mackinnon in his last start and is a Brisbane Cup winner over the trip."

"Looking to the Sandown Guineas, Kidnapped ($2.50) has been dominant in his last two races, particularly in the Carbine Club where he ran on strongly, and is clearly the one to beat. Silver Spur ($15.00) is a roughie with genuine claims. He backs up from a near-miss in the Hilton at Flemington on Stakes Day and looks as though the step up to the 1600m will suit."

Will Eagle falls stay in the Stakes?

Friday, 06 November 2009

"Cox Plate winning rookie So You Think ($2.90) tops the market in the Emirates Stakes," says IASbet's Mark Read. "There has also been plenty of support for Gold Salute ($6.00) following his solid second in the Toorak to Allez Wonder. Seven of the past 10 winners in this race have been 10/1 plus, and Eagle Falls ($15.00) might be the knockout chance this year. He is the query runner, with Hayes determined to find out if he is adept at the 1600m or if he should be focus on being a specialist sprinter."

"In the other Group 1 on the card, the Patinack Farm Classic, I'm going with Nicconi ($5.00). He had a great return win in the McEwan and then gave Danleigh too much of a break in the Manikato. There has also been good support for All Silent ($3.80), while Apache Cat ($4.00) has the blows, even after his dominant display in the Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley, as he's failed in his past two attempts down the straight."

"Hume ($2.50) is the massive favourite in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, following second to Shocking in the Lexus Stakes on Derby Day. Hissing Sid ($7.50) might provide some value here. He was ordinary in the Moonee Valley Cup, but had no luck in the running and I expect a far superior performance on Saturday."

IASbet Big Bet Blast 5

Tuesday, 3 November 2009

This Melbourne Cup Day, IASbet have given six lucky punters the chance to become some of Australia's largest punters for a day - on us.

IASbet has just announced the winners of its Big Bet Blast 5 in which punters can bet like a King - and keep the profits!

The winner, Phil M, has a $100,000 betting bank in which to spend on races across the nation on Melbourne Cup Day.

Five runners up - Gary F, Allen M, Scott O, John G and Nicholas C - have each scored themselves a $20,000 betting bank to spend on the day.

IASbet's Mark Read said "I wish all the lucky winners the very best of luck - and hope they can make a few bucks in this once in a lifetime opportunity!"

Monday, 2 November 2009

This year's Melbourne Cup shapes as one of the most memorable in years if the buildup is anything to go by, says IASbet's Mark Read. "At the top of the market there's the people's hero from the bush in Alcopop ($5.00) and the returning champ from the people's trainer Bart Cummings in Viewed ($5.00). Shocking ($10.00) put in a most eye-catching run in the Lexus on Derby Day, and has been very well backed since he snuck into the field. Mark Kavanagh's luck of late has been just that - Shocking - and hopefully this horse can erase some of the bad memories over the past few weeks."

"I think Roman Emperor ($9.00) represents great value in this year's Cup. His last run was a solid second to Viewed in the Caulfield Cup, who had the sort of run that jockeys and punters dream of. He's an AJC Derby winner, is bred to get the trip, and has the man of the moment in his corner.

"Looking to the other races on the day for winners, Ortensia ($2.10) looks almost unbeatable in the Herald Sun Stakes over 1400m. Back to her own sex, Williams should give her the gun run and she should be too strong for these."

"Another shortie is Mark Kavanagh's Defintely Ready ($1.40) in the Schweppes Tonic 1000. His three career runs have all been dominant wins and he is simply in another class to his rivals. Because of the short quotes on offer, perhaps have the Ortensia/Definitely Ready running double and then use that money to bet later on the Cup."

Warrior and the Rock to fight out Derby

Friday, 30 October 2009

This year's Derby shapes up to be a cracker, says IASbet.com's Mark Read. "Shamoline Warrior ($3.20) has drawn wide in barrier nine, however he'll likely take a sit just behind the main group and shouldn't be disadvantaged from there," said Read.

"Whobegotyou ($3) has run at the track four times for four wins, he won the Yalumba Stakes last start and is a deserving favourite." Read suggests sticking to the local hopes with Heart Of Dreams ($5.50), Zipping ($15), and El Segundo ($15) all creating interest. "El Segundo has won the race before, Zipping was second last year and Heart Of Dreams has been running great races in all the key lead ups." Bart Cummings three year old So You Think ($15 into $11) has been one of the better backed runners and as we learnt last week, ignore Bart at your peril!

The Schweppes Stakes (1200m) should be a fantastic race according to Read. "This is a Group One field in a Group Two race, Lucky Secret ($3.30) and Apache Cat ($3.60) must be respected with fantastic Moonee Valley records, but Light Fantastic ($13) and Danleigh ($9) represent the Value, Danleigh won the Manikato Stakes over the same distance at the Valley a month ago and should again be prominent"

Hard to look past Whobe

Friday, 23 October 2009

As racing's focus turns to Moonee Valley and the Cox Plate, IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read says you shouldn't overlook the obvious when it comes to assessing the race.

Daffodil in full bloom

Friday, 16 October 2009

While the weather reporters are predicting doom and gloom from the skies for the Caulfield Cup, IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read predicts Daffodil will win this years Caulfield Cup. The pace of the race begins at a slow tempo as Zavite leads from Light Vision and Vigor, while Kirklees gets the run in the box seat, explains Read. Daffodils rating is at its highest when racing at a mile and a half like we saw this year in the AJC Oaks, and is blessed with the low weight. She comes into this race at peak fitness and is unquestionably a main threat."

Opposing horses for the Caulfield Cup has been generalized by Read as he has taken aim at the English stayers Cima De Triomphe and Kirklees. From a value prospective, Kirklees is poorly handicapped in the race whilst Cima De Triomphe has the task of coming from the rear off the back of a slow tempo, declared Read, For those looking for a roughie, Light Visions price is tremendous each way value.

No doubt the absence of crowd favourite Maldivian in this Saturdays Caulfield Cup has somewhat soured the pre post punters who wagered on last years Cox Plate to win a long overdue Caulfield Cup at $15.00.

However a shining light has appeared into the punters darkness as IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read declared that he will pay back all lost pre post bets on Maldivian, given that he owes the horse one. Ironically this horse has been an ally of mine, stated Read, firstly he would have sent me to the cleaners had he won the Caulfield Cup although was scratched at the barriers and then he saved my skin by winning last years Cox Plate at the big odds. Given that we may not see him again its the least I can do for him."

Baughurst not the worst

Friday, 9 October 2009

On a race day predominantly dominated by Group racing at Caulfield this Saturday, IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read has produced a surprise to punters tipping Baughurst ($13.00) to win the Group One Yalumba Stakes. This horse could be this years Duoro Valley, stated Read, A lot of his opposition still has the Cox Plate on their agenda, and he represents great value sitting upfront with absolutely no early pace, and the favourites back in the field."

In regards to the Toorak Handicap, Raheeb ($5.00) is extremely hard to beat from the ideal barrier according to Read. Both Racing To Win ($9.00) and Black Pirahna ($7.00) have too much weight, whilst Raffaelo ($6.00) could not have drawn worse opposed to the way he races."

Although selecting Manhattan Rain ($6.50) in the Caulfield Guineas, Read declares that this event appears more open than first glance suggests. Denman ($2.80) thoroughly deserves his favoritism; however So You Think ($10.00 into $7.00) and Trusting ($4.80 in to $4.60) have been solidly backed to beat him. This race is set to be a mighty contest. "

Price is right for Predatory

Friday, 2 October 2009

With the AFL football season a distant memory, the main consensus for sport in Victoria turns to the Turnbull Stakes meeting at Flemington this Saturday and IASbet.com bookmaker Mark Read believes that all winning factors point to the very consistent Predatory Pricer ($4.60). "Considering all facets of his last race, the effort of Predatory Pricer was extremely outstanding. Going into the Turnbull Stakes this week he has drawn ideally, is ready to compete at peak fitness and has an advantageous drop in weight." Amongst others, Read has also given credence to Red Ruler ($7.50) whom he has rated the best weighted horse in the field.

Needing to win The Metropolitan this Saturday to solidify a Caulfield Cup birth, Mark Read believes that bookmakers are at the punters mercy with favourite Speed Gifted ($3.40). "Lee Freedman will have Speed Gifted wound up for this race and by my speed map he will have every chance with a perfect run in transit."
