Racing - Douglas Whyte To Ride At Stradbroke
Hong Kong's leading rider Douglas Whyte will make his Australian debut at Eagle Farm on Saturday after accepting the ride on the Kevin Moses trained Royal Ninja in the group 1 $500,000 Queensland Derby.Whyte who leads the Hong Kong jockey premiership this season with 96 wins won’t be staying on for Mondays Brisbane Cup meeting. Whyte will instead return to Hong Kong for Sunday’s meeting at Sha Tin where he will attempt to close in on his record haul of 106 winners that he set last season.
Meanwhile, connections of the Diane Poidevin-Laine trained River to the Sea paid the $44,000 late entry fee for the $1 million G1 AAMI Stradbroke Handicap 1400 metres as did the connections of the Shaun Dwyer trained Pacific Dancer who paid a late entry fee of $27,500 for the horse to run in Monday’s $500,000 G1 Conrad Treasury Brisbane Cup 3200 metres.
The final field of 20 runners and four emergencies for the Stradbroke Handicap will be declared later today.
